Outfit: The Dorothy Of SE London


A quick outfit throne together as well as being little miss frizz. Admittedly, I'm wearing these two items of clothing for the shame of them being in my wardrobe for the best part of a year and a half, only getting one wear in that time.

There's something about pastel blue and gingham that just makes me so happy. Perhaps I feel a bit like Dorothy; both sweet and elegant and I definitely feel like that in this outfit. The only thing I'm missing is a little dog and a basket full of baked goods. I'm just imagining it now!

Both parts of this outfit are slightly too big for me, especially the skirt which just looks awkward and in definite need of an iron which I sacrificed due to both lack of time and eagerness to wear blue gingham again which if you've seen previous posts, you'd know I love.

I decided to get a little dressy as with working so much recently, I really felt I wasn't dressing as "50s" as I'd usually like and to be honest, I have gotten very lazy recently. Lazy being an understatement; my life right now consists of work, sleep, eat and repeat. Only ever so often will I go out of my way to make an effort with my hair and make up for work but when you're getting up at 2:40am to go to work, you gotta pick - sleep or make up? Sleep always.

Anyway! So I'm contemplating going back to blonde but this time REALLY blonde, not the dirty blonde I pretended to like. I'm a little tired of being a redhead (who knows, I can always revisit this again at another time) and now I'm eager to be a 'blonde bombshell' - I think I'd kill it. What do you think?

Top 5 Affordable Vintage Reproduction Brands

So you may or may not have read it but I recently blogged about going to LondonEdge a few weeks ago (you can read about it here) and I mentioned that I went to see Ree Ree Rockette's seminar on blogging. She made a brilliant point, and I'm not sure why it hadn't really occurred to me before, that most people in life and especially when it comes to fashion, like to take bits and pieces from subcultures rather than indulging it in fully. When it comes to pinup and mid century fashion, I was like this for a very long time; I would wear mostly everyday clothes such as basic jeans and t-shirts and would every so often 'sample' bits of 50s style clothing when it came to parties or special occasions. Eventually, I got around to dressing pinup full time but not all people are like that for a various number of reasons.

I've decided to post about my favourite affordable vintage reproduction brands with those people in mind. My mum, for example, is a person who loves vintage repro clothing like me but decides to only sample from it from time to time as she finds it too expensive to keep up full time. I have the advantage of still being able to live at home and not have very many outgoings so I can afford to dress vintage full time! 





















Arguably one of the most well known reproduction brands, Collectif Clothing are ridiculously reliable for having some of the best sales going. I have built up quite a collection in my wardrobe through their sales and regular discount codes they offer. Collectif are also one of those brands that can offer transition type pieces for those that aren't feeling confident enough to wear a full-on 50s style outfit but want a bit of an edge. They recently had a big 75% off sale and I bought so much stuff I pretty much have a brand new wardrobe. They're brilliant. 


Always a firm favourite of mine, Lindy Bop have one of the biggest selection of affordable repro clothing going. You could spend hours and hours on their site choosing what to wear as there is that much to choose from. Their selection covers a good range of both 40s and 50s fashion from dresses and tops to shorts, skirts and trousers all which come under a range of about £35. I own a few Lindy Bop dresses now (and a top which is actually an amazing dupe for a Pinup Girl Clothing one) and I've only had one dress that was a bit iffy but it didn't stop me from buying there again and I'm so glad. If you need any help, their customer services team are fantastic. 














3) Voodoo Vixen
This is a good brand to go for if you prefer 'quirkier' and more kitsch style dresses. They do prints ranging from cats all the way to nautical themes.  The price range of the dresses vary from around the £35 to up to £60 but most are in the middle of that and so are very affordable. My opinion on Voodoo Vixen is that they make stunning dresses and cardigans (oh the cardigans are wonderful) which have always been in very good quality in my opinion.  Overall, I have a lot of love for Voodoo Vixen, their price range and quality of clothing. They offer a good variety of styles and even have a plus range too. 








Like Voodoo Vixen, Hell Bunny have a lovely range of kitsch 50s style dresses. I have a few of them myself which I bought when I was first starting out in the pinup world. They cover quite a few alternative clothing styles and whilst I'm not particularly a fan of their goth-ier range, their 50s stuff is beautiful, well made and usually only around £40-45 a dress. These dresses are also particularly great if you're not fancying wearing pinup full time. If you're lucky, you can usually find some of their dresses floating about the web for a discount price. My favourite place to grab their dresses is through Amazon or Tiger Milly, however quite a few online retailers stock them as well. 








Admittedly and definitely ashamedly, Lady V is a brand I tend to forget about often. Yes, shame on you Sarah! I love both Lady V London and Lady Voluptuous, the latter being a collaboration between Lady V and Georgina from Fuller Figure Bust. Lady V is also a plus size friendly brand which I love and their dresses are so pretty and perfect for weddings and parties. Their dresses are around the £40-50 range but often I have also seen them do discounts and codes particularly around special events, so keep your eye out.

Wishlist Wednesday #10



1) 'Hazel' Floral Swing Dress by Lindy Bop, £34.99
Lindy Bop are really killing it lately! They've been slowly adding new dresses to their collection and after buying a couple of the 'Marlene' dresses, this is the one I now have my eye on. As always, I'm a great lover of floral prints; however, what I think attracted my attention to this was the structure and style of the dress. It looks very comfortable with sleeves that cover the top parts of your arms and shoulders making it a perfect dress for the slightly colder weather we're having.

2) Pink Petticoat by Vivien Of Holloway, £59
Vivien of Holloway petticoats are by far the best I've worn so far but they are a little on the pricey side. However, I always maintain that they are SO worth the money. They are so full and fluffy, they feel incredible to wear which is something I haven't felt with cheaper alternatives. Now admittedly, I've not gotten my own, I usually steal my mum's (thanks!) but when I finally invest in my own, I want this lovely pink colour.

3) 'Gracey' Dress by Voodoo Vixen, £44.99
You know me, can't stay away from gingham, can I?! It's just so gorgeous, not to mention that the sweetheart neckline is adorable and something that I always love in a dress. 'Gracey' is a little shorter than most dresses I normally wear, but where's the harm in mixing things up once in a while? I'm going on holiday in over a month and I just think it would make such pretty day time wear. It's been a while since I've bought a Voodoo Vixen dress and I always love the quality and reasonable prices of their clothing so hopefully I'll be able to get this one sometime soon.

4) 'Ariel' Nautical Swing Dress by Hell Bunny, $46
Ugh, I love this. I love nautical themes and I especially LOVE deep v necklines on a dress. It reminds me so much of Voodoo Vixen's nautical dresses so much that at first I thought it was a VV dress. Much like VV though, Hell Bunny's dresses are so reasonably priced for the quality you get. With a gorgeous gathered swing skirt that flows out from a nipped in waistline, you also get lipstick pockets. That's right, lipstick pockets!!! This dress is currently on sale at Unique Vintage so grab it if you can. 

Something I've wanted in my life for a while now is a big chunky statement necklace and boy, is this a good one. Did you know you can now order from Erstwilder's website after a revamp which opens you up to more options? fab! I prefer ordering from Audrey Star's Boutique personally, but I know it's helpful knowing you can order straight from Erstwilder themselves when you can't find what you want in other retailer's online shops. A perfect mix of pastel colours and pure kitschey-ness (not a word but I'm making it one), this is a perfect accessory for brightening up any outfit!

6) Photoshoot by The Pin Up Academy
So I'm surprised I haven't added this one on sooner but I REALLY want to do my first Pin Up photoshoot. It's something I've been thinking about for a long time as I'd quite like to do an odd bit of modelling here and there so I'd really love to start a portfolio. The Pin Up Academy have an incredible set up which has different styles of sets and beautiful H&MU from the amazing October Divine who also helps guide you through your photos. Photography is by internationally published Si Pin Up Photographer who is amazing! This is definitely something I have to do in the future, but as I'm currently saving for a house, it's not possible but once that's done this will be at the top of my list!

Wednesday Wishlist #6 - Hell Bunny edition!


Hiya! Well, here's another weeks edition of Wednesday Wishlist and this time around I am focusing solely on Hell Bunny. I decided that there were too many items of theirs that I am lusting after so I thought 'sod it' and decided to throw them all into one post. 

I absolutely adore this brand for a number of reasons; firstly, how damn affordable they are! All of their range is extremely bank account friendly whilst at the same time still maintaining a high quality standard of clothing. Secondly, they have such a vast range of different patterns and styles of clothes, it's really hard what to choose from, you're always spoilt for choice.

1) Dolly top - £14.99
How gorgeous is this?! It'd look absolutely perfect with a pair of capris or a circle skirt. I like how the sleeves sit just on the shoulders whilst I find the knotted deep v neckline very attractive, it's what stops it from being boring for me. I find the price tag really good for this style of top, I would normally expect to spend around £25, and as I trust the quality of Hell Bunny clothing, I know you'll be getting more than your money's worth. 

Made in the same style as the 'Larissa' dress I reviewed previously, the Ariel is taking different approach with the cut and style and instead of being tropical like the Larissa, the Ariel is adding a nautical theme, I've probably mentioned this before but I love nautical style clothing and it can be such a big staple in the pin-up girls wardrobe. I have an anchor tattoo on my forearm - insert Popeye joke here - so I always look the part when I wear a 1950s sailor style outfit. My favourite thing about these style dresses from Hell Bunny, is the belt that is included; I not only use them with these dresses but with other outfits too, they are so well made and long lasting. 

A mini dress isn't something that I'm normally particularly comfortable with the idea of but with the weather being quite warm at the moment, I'd like something shorter to wear. Obviously, this one is SO perfect because it has dogs all over it and a cute as hell plaid print. Get in my wardrobe please <3

4) Lacey top - £18.99
I'm always on the hunt for new separates, especially tops as I seem to have a lot more trousers and skirts. I'm in LOVE with this style of neckline, it's so different, yet elegant and sexy. It reminds me of Pinup Girl Clothing's Voodoo Vixen top but with a vintage floral twist. There's nothing not to adore about this cute top!

All of my capris are currently from Primark (yeaaah I've mentioned a million times that they're doing some amazing pieces this summer) and I've stocked up on them whilst I can get my grubby little hands on them. However, they aren't high waisted and this is what I feel I'm missing out on. These cuties are not only high waisted but they have seams down the back of the trouser legs with V-shaped gaps which makes them even more pin-up and adorable.

6) Hummingbird cardigan - £26.99
I haven't bought a cardigan in so long, I'm definitely due to treat myself to a new one and this mint green beauty will definitely be the first on my list. The elegant hummingbird design really stands out for me on this one!

My second week of Friday Favourites and it didn't take much to decide what I am absolutely loving this week. I'm off on annual leave so I'm trying to make a good week of it by heading out and catching up with friends or just generally exploring the countryside. 

Cheekyboo Emporium


You may have seen my review this week of the 'Dancing Flamingo' necklace from Cheekyboo's website, and I absolutely love it! I've decided to put them in my Friday Favourites this week because I'm actually adoring all of the items of their website. From cute broochs to plushies and necklaces, there are a lot of lovely handmade bits to admire


Sunny weather

The weather has been glorious this week hasn't it? It puts everyone in an excellent mood and I've been able to go out and about to shoot blog photos. It helps that I'm off work at the moment so I have plenty of spare time to do things whilst the weather is great.




I've only just recently gotten into painting my nails. I don't usually bother because I hate going to the effort of painting them then waiting for them to dry for them to only chip within a few hours of them being dry. However, I've decided to try again and I picked up some base coats and top coats. I saw this in Boots on the Barry M shelves and I just loved the selection of pastel colours, I'm a massive fan of pastel colours and I liked the idea of it being a quick dry colour as I havent used one before. Verdict? I love it! It's been two days now and my nails have no sign of chipping; I'm so pleased! The colour is lovely and a very cute pink. I'm definitely going to be picking up the other colours.

Hell Bunny - Souvenir dress.


Sunday was a beautiful day, I'd just gone to get my hair done and on my way home, I stopped by Greenwich Park to take some photos for this post. I remember feeling stupidly nervous about this as it was the first time that I was going to take blog photos out in public, on my own. Obviously a sensible choice was to pick a park, on a Sunday, when it was very warm and sunny; no, not my greatest decision but one I'm very glad I made. 

For a couple of weeks, I've been trying to think of a few ways to up my 'photo' game, as it were. I'm constantly looking for new ways to improve myself; through my photos, my writing and my blog in general. I'm quite lucky in the respect that I live in close distance of some beautiful parks, including my favourite - Greenwich Park. Everything about this place is stunning, the views are out of this world. 

So I'm not totally happy with how most of these photos came out. I was definitely nervous - what's not nerve racking about setting your camera and tri-pod up in the middle of a busy park and then set to striking poses? I was getting some looks but nothing too bad. I tend to feel I always make a bigger deal out of how people perceive me than what people do truthfully. 


So I'm totally in love with the surroundings here and I'm glad I can bring something new to the blog. I'm on annual leave for the next two weeks from work, and I'm so determined to scout new locations to shoot outfit photos! I'd love to have a partner in crime with me on these kinds of trips but I am looking forward to getting out on my own with just me, my camera and my tripod. 


On to the outfit, I've had this for a couple of weeks ago but I've only just gotten around to shooting it. The dress is described as the "Souvenir" dress from Hell Bunny. A brand I'm finding myself constantly going back to, as I'm in love with their kitsch designs. You may have seen this style dress in the form of my 'Larissa'. It's the same style but with a different print.


What I love about this dress is that makes me feel like I'm on holiday. I've worn this out a couple of times now and I've had some lovely compliments by strangers. It's a perfect summer dress for me as it is sleeveless but it doesn't give me the same exposure that I don't particularly like from say spaghetti straps. 

I am particularly fond of the fit of this dress; it is perfectly form fitting on the body and then comes out to a flowing skirt so it accentuates the curves of your body, this is enhanced with the belt that comes included; it can be used to pull you in at the waist - which I always love. 

The back of the dress goes down into a 'V' shape, like the front and features a hidden zip design. Made of 98% cotton and 2% spandex, there is a very tiny bit of stretch to this dress. The quality is fantastic so I couldn't fault the way the dress is made at all, and I think if different prints of this style dress continue to be made, I will buy them all. 

The dress is adorned with prints of signs of Fiji, flowers and maps; which gives the dress such a cute touristy feel and that's why you feel on holiday when you wear it. I've never been to Fiji but I'd love to now and I'd take this dress with me. 
Worn with my dress, is a cardigan from Primark. I accidentally bought it in a 18 so it looks quite odd and I have to tie it up quite hard to make it look less baggy.

Hell Bunny - Larissa dress





So I wrote a post on this Hell Bunny - Larissa dress a couple of weeks ago but the images were very low quality so I thought I'd do a brand new one with images from my DSLR.

This dress has been my go-to for the past month as it's just so comfortable and easy to throw on. The colours are very vibrant and colourful - it's the epitome of summer! I love this dress because I feel so pretty in it without making much of an effort.

The belt I'm wearing with this dress is from Pinup Girl clothing but the belt that comes with the dress is very similar. The belt is one of my favourite features of the dress as it really pulls in the waist. There's something about the neckline I really love - so much I bought this style dress in another pattern which you'll see in another blog post coming up soon!

OOTD: Hell Bunny - Larissa



Apologies for the very poor quality photos, but I thought I'd share with you all my outfit for the day and I had to make to do with my only resources - aka my Samsung Galaxy S3

Now this a dress you will see me wear aaaaaaaaalot. It's the Hell Bunny - Larissa dress which you'll find on Amazon for around £35-£39. It's one of my most favourite dress purchases ever. I love everything about it, from the flamingo print, to the style of sleeves; it's not too strappy and it covers enough of my shoulders but still enough that you'll be cool in the summer! It fits me perfectly around the waist and flares out at the bottom which makes my waist look smaller. The dress actually comes with a white patent belt, but I forgot to bring it with me to my boyfriend's house so I'm using the belt from my Pinup Girl Clothing - Harley dress. It doesn't exactly match but I'd much rather wear a waist belt than none at all.
