Review: The Oblong Box Shop Flamingo Skirt & Criss Cross Sweetheart top.

The Oblongbox Shop is a brand I'd heard of for a while through Instagram but had never gotten around to checking out properly. I always thought "well I can't spend this money so I might as well not bother looking" and so I didn't. For a while. Pay day arrived and I then found myself more curious than ever to check out their beautiful skirts I'd been spying online.

Now what sets The Oblong Box Shop apart is that owner, Denialle Von Fitch, handcrafts all of her skirts which includes down to the actual skirt illustrations. I think people tend appreciate little nuggets of information like this because it normally means that a lot of care and attention has gone into creating the item of clothing. Another thing I noticed was just how easy the website is to navigate; okay that may sound supeeer lame but this kind of thing is important to me. It's really fast, organised and visually SO pretty to look at. I suspect a lot of people wouldn't care but a crappy website bothers me and loses me as a customer faster than you can blink.

Browsing through their website was more tempting than I could have imagined. I had a little look through all of the clothing but what really caught my eye in particular was the collection of skirts. By far, my favourites are the novelty print skirts; since I bought my first Pinup Girl Clothing Jenny skirt, I've absolutely fallen in love with kitsch printed clothing, so to me these were heaven to look at.

I went with the flamingo design for a couple of reasons; one, the turquoise colour is vivid, stunning and totally eye catching.....which I really like despite actually loathing attention 99% of the time (I know I'm a weird one) and two, you may know that I have mentioned on the blog a few times now that I just adore flamingo prints. When it comes down to it, go with what you know!

The skirt is made from 100% polyester which is something I've not experienced in a full skirt (or any skirt) before. For me, it's perfect though as I've since carried it around in my suitcase and it just doesn't crease. I'm only used to wearing cotton skirts so it did take a little getting used to but I feel that this will only make the skirt last a lot longer. It really is beautiful to look at; the colours are incredible and so vibrant and worth the $95 for that on it's own; but it also features a hidden side zipper with an adjustable waistline which is also another first for me! However, I could have easily downsized in this. As an inbetweenie, I tend to size up to be safe, especially when ordering from America. I've found it isn't too much of a bother because as you can see here, I've put my trusty ebay belt on to accentuate my waist and break up the colour.

Worn with the skirt, is also a top that is from The Oblong Box Shop. As far as I could tell, these tops aren't made by the brand but are from elsewhere. The selection is fantastic however, and SO CHEAP. When I made my order, I also bought this 'It's A Wrap' crossover top for $20 and the one I'm wearing here which is the 'Criss Cross Sweetheart Pinup Top' in baby blue at $19.50. They are both fantastic quality, especially for their price. I'm so used to pinup style seperates being stupidly expensive most of the time so it is refreshing to see affordable prices.

What I love about this top though, which also comes in many different colours, is the variation.

You can wear the neckline as a criss cross or just as normal straps like shown above. I might at some point try and tuck the straps under and wear it like a boob tube style top and see what that looks like, So it is versatile as well as being stretchy and very flattering on the body and bust. I suspect the built in cups are a bit useless for the bustier lady but are perfect for me. The colour also goes perfect with the skirt, they're like a match made in heaven!

Well, I hope you enjoyed reading this review. As you can tell, I fully recommend making an order from The Oblong Box Company, especially as you'd be helping out a smaller business. The selection is really to die for so you won't regret it.

Wishlist Wednesday #7

Ugh, I've wanted this top for weeks and I have been 'umming and aaaahing' over it over the past few days. It's such a gorgeous pink colour that goes with so many clothes in my wardrobe, so I'll know it would become a staple choice. I never used to be such a fan of spanish style clothing but the more I see it incorporated into the pin-up world, the more it grows on me
.
2) Betsy Swallow bag by Sourpuss, £43
Sourpuss's range of bags are simply divine; they ooze class and sophistication and make a beautiful addition to anyone's wardrobe. I'm in love with this colour but honestly, I'd love to own all of the colour-ways because I'm selfish and greedy like that. I don't really have much of a bag collection as such, so I'd love to build one and my next bag related splurge will be via Sourpuss!

3) Tropical flamingo brooch by Luxulite, £16
Luxulite are a jewellery brand who are well praised in the pin-up community and rightly so; their eclectic mix of quirky and kitsch brooches, necklaces and earrings are absolutely made to finish off any outfit. I love this brooch in particular, you may have noticed that I'm a lover of flamingos (not sorry) but I'm totally drawn in by these colours.

4) 'Cheronda' blue swing dress by Lindy Bop, £29.99
This gorgeous swing dress reminds me ~in a way~ of the Pinup Girl Clothing 'Harley' dress, probably just because of the neckline. For me, I'd have to add a belt to this dress to break up the colour but aside from that, it's fantastic, cheaper alternative to the more expensive 'Harley'.

5) 'Wanderlust' flamingo bikini by Banned, £25 top & £20 bottoms
I'm hopefully going to be going on holiday later in the year and so I will be looking to get some new bikinis in. Now, Hell Bunny have some beautiful retro bikinis in their summer line this year but then I also discovered Banned's. Yes yes yes, I am obsessed - to the point it's probably tacky - wi

I've just ordered the AMAZING cigarette trousers by Collectif in this print and so now obviously, I have to have this skirt. I don't own any pencil skirts and I want a collection, pronto.

OOTD // Pinup Girl Clothing + Tara Starlet

I threw this outfit together because it was hot, I was going out into London for a meal and I was pretty much just throwing on the first bits of clothes I found in my wardrobe (floor). But seriously? I am so in love with this entire ensemble; I love a good accidental outfit! I've used this Zooey top by Pinup Couture in a few OOTD posts now but I just can't resist because it's a gorgeous cut and colour plus very versatile. Although a little loose for me in the breast area, I love the lined body as it fits perfectly to my shape.

The shorts are by Tara Starlet which I bought last year with the matching crop top. I don't think I've ever worn the crop top actually as I'm a little self concious of my midriff in it but I'm sure as I continue to lose weight (fingers crossed), I may find some more confidence. Although a little tight around the waist and the legs, there is no denying how stunning the floral print on these shorts are. And despite there being no stretch in the shorts whatsoever which made me a teeny tiny bit uncomfortable, they still looked so good so I wasn't complaining. Additionally, the shorts are very lightweight and I found that whenever I've worn them out, the bottom half of me stays very cool and the pockets have such good depth so I was carrying my phone and lipstick around without needing a bag - that's always a winner in my eyes.

I added the belt, bought recently in Primark, to pull me in at the waist. The belt size is small with a lovely zig zag pattern across the front with a gold coloured clasp that slide in together to create an effortless look. I really love the shape the combination of this outfit gives my body, it really makes me LOVE my waist, eek!

This outfit did wonders for my confidence and self-esteem and I look forward to wearing it more over the summer! Sandals are also by Primark.

OOTD // Primark & Pinup Girl Clothing

I haven't done a OOTD post in a long while because I've been so busy! I meant to post this a couple of weeks back but I really have been tied up, so I do apologise for my lack of presence on the blog recently.

What have I been up to? Well it's been a mixture of trying to balance my full time shift work on the Underground with going down the gym and trying to get fitter and there was a week Jonny came home from tour so I dedicated most of my free time seeing him as he's now away again for another 7 weeks.

I really do struggle to balance posting regularly on the blog alongside the shift work that I do; my hours are all over the place so I am challenged about which days I can and cannot shoot blog photos. I'm so much more productive when I have annual leave. My aim over the next few weeks is to find a better balance between working, socialising and blogging. I adore blogging far too much to not ever find time for it.

Primark has had some incredible pin up inspired bits and pieces in their stores this summer; from sandals and tops, to even home ware!

I picked up these cute white sandals in their Bromley store and I believe they retail at around £8, although I cannot properly remember that so they could be £6 or they could be £10; I know, I'm a very helpful blogger sometimes! Anyway, they are so gorgeous and I really believe they finish off an outfit.

An item I'm sure I've already featured, is the Bardot top which I also picked up in Primark; at £3.50 a top, it's so cheap so I picked up all the colours they had available. It makes such a handy separate for all your skirts and trousers. Unfortunately, I haven't yet found a way to make the neckline stay on my shoulders but I can deal with that.

This Jenny skirt by Pinup Girl Clothing is my favourite item of clothing in my wardrobe at the moment; it's so pretty and it pretty much goes with most things I have. I could have done with a petticoat underneath this as the skirt was feeling and looking a little flat; however, I love showing this skirt some love so I always wear it no matter what.

The belt is by Vivien of Holloway and I would normally wear a wider one, I'm on a bit of a belt shortage at the moment so I used this one instead. I'd rather have a belt than none at all, hehe.

I've lost some weight since I've taken these photos and I can see the difference here just looking at myself. I'm so excited about my progress and I can't wait to post an update showing you all how far I've come along in just a few weeks.

Hopefully I'll be able to find more time to post now!
